The dream to fly is one sought after by many humans. To feel the wind in one's hair and see the world spread out below. The Flying Vargas trapeze troupe experiences this dream every week here at Circus Circus Reno. Led by Franco Vargas, this amazing group of performers is a truly unusual family act that is a must see.
The Flying Vargas have traveled the world, performing in such exotic locales as Budapest, Portugal, and Puerto Rico. They also performed with the Ringling Brothers Circus for nine years before coming to the Biggest Little City.
This thrilling act consists of Franco Vargas, Maricella Vargas, and Naira Vargas, who've teamed up with Monique Coupland and Carlo Urban of Australia. Franco, a fourth-generation performer, has been performing since the age of seven and his wife, Naira from Argentina, is a fifth generation performer who joined the troupe when she married Franco in 2003. Maricella started flying at the age of nine. While performing with the Ringling Brothers in Mexico City, she was one of only a few women in the world to accomplish the triple somersault. Monique is a fifth-generation circus performer who has been with circuses all her life. Carlo is currently seeking the world record for most consecutive successful triple catches. He also hopes to be the first Australian to accomplish the quadruple somersault.
The Flying Vargas perform an array of mesmerizing, daring tricks high above the ground, including the passing leap, where one artist flies under and one flies over the bar simultaneously. The troupe's most famous trick, the highlight of its show, is the triple somersault, where Carlo completes three full turns in the air. This spectacular moment will take your breath away!
Wondering if you've got what it takes to fly? These experienced artists say that mental strength is more important than physical strength. If you mentally prepare yourself and concentrate, they say, you can overcome fear and focus on what needs to be done.
